Common causes are dirty filters, a clogged heat exchanger or refrigerant loss. The first you can fix yourself; refrigerant may only be checked and refilled by a licensed company, which should also find the cause of the loss.
Which unit suits my home?
Cooling capacity depends on room size, sun exposure and insulation. A professional sizes the unit accordingly — oversized systems short-cycle, undersized ones run flat out; both waste electricity.
